“The Son of Telamon”
Alas! Alas!
Teukros mourns.
Tecmessa and Eurysakes weep.
The Hellenes sorrow soundlessly.
Alas! Alas!
Odysseus feels blame
Because the son of Telamon has fallen on the sword of Hector.
Now he journeys to the house of Hades.
Alas! Alas!
Slaughtered flocks rot under the sun.
No funeral pyre for the butcher:
Agamemnon demands a mere grave.
Madmen must not be cremated;
They do not deserve the honor.
Alas! Alas!
Odysseus feels blame,
Tecmessa and Eurysakes weep,
As Teukros mourns,
For the son of Telamon has gone to the house of Hades.
