Trying to avoid a rant…

Published July 13, 2020 by Iphis of Scyros

When I left off writing today, it was to try to sign up for a site that connects freelancers to potential employers, to see if I could maybe get some proofreading work. Only somehow they seem to have confused a business site with a dating site, because they required a freaking photograph! It’s discrimination, plain and simple. They want to ensure that ugly people like me can’t find work! Someone should sue them, force them to either remove all photographs or admit that they’re really a sketchy site trying to help people hook up with desperate, out-of-work folks, and/or that they want to help racists avoid hiring people of color.

Ugh, that sort of thing is exactly what I was trying not to say. Sorry. It’s soured my whole day. I’m going to have to keep looking, hope I can find a site that won’t allow people to refuse to hire me just because I’m hideous. (Seriously, it’s supposed to be connecting people for online, remote work! What possible excuse can they give for requiring a photograph?)

Um, so, yeah…uh…well, I finished rereading my Regency period piece, and that third phase is pretty jarring (esp. since that’s the part where my language started going more modern, too), but I don’t think I need to restructure and change the story around; it’s not that anyone does anything out of character or even anachronistic, it’s just that writers at the time didn’t write about such subjects. (Unless they were writing about Lucretia…)

Nnnn, yeah, I can’t form a decent post today. I’ma go fight demons to destress…
