Or rather, “I don’t want any spoilers, thanks.”
See, the new season of Doctor Who premieres tonight. My hopes aren’t too high, considering the way Clara torpedoed the last season and tried to kick the Doctor down to second banana on his own show, but I still want to enter each episode with as little info about it as possible. (Seriously, I leave the room when my dad insists on watching the next episode previews.)
The reason I bring this up is that I don’t have cable. Or any other access to current television. So I very rarely see anything at the time of its broadcast. Instead, I have to go to my parents’ or my brother’s place to watch things. Doctor Who is one of those shows that my parents record, and then my brother and I both go over to watch it with them. (They like to get together with us at least once a week anyway, so it makes a good time filler after lunch.) The thing of it is, that means I won’t get to see the episodes until Sunday, or Monday, depending on if the museum is open this Sunday. (Due to construction taking away our usual parking area, we have to be closed whenever there’s a day game at the stadium down the street. But I detest professional sports, so I have no idea if there’s a day game or not this weekend.) Because of this delay, I’m going to be off the Internet — apart from super-safe places like my iPad’s weather app, or looking for things in the university library’s catalog — until I see the new episode each week.
At least, for the moment. As the season progresses, if I notice that no one I’m following is posting spoilers in the portion of their posts that hit the Reader (and no surprise spoilers in seemingly unrelated posts) then I may decide I don’t have to avoid WordPress between airtime and my personal watch-time, but…for the moment, until I know how safe the waters are, I want to keep out of those waters, to extend the metaphor a bit too far. (I may employ a similar avoid-and-delay tactic when Agents of SHIELD comes back later, too. That’s sometime in October, right? Oh, and there’s that DC show where Rory’s playing (essentially) a Time Agent. I may need to worry about that one, too. I don’t even know when that starts, or remember what it’s called, though. Some stupid title that had nothing to do with time travel, I think. (Well, obviously they couldn’t call it Rory the Time Agent, ’cause that’s not his name on their show, and that’s not what his job is actually called, either, but…if they had, they’d probably have doubled their female audience!))
So, long story short, I won’t be back until I’ve seen the new episode, so any comments will be not only unanswered but unseen until either late tomorrow or (more likely) late Monday. Oh, and the “Missing Letter Monday” post won’t be going up until late afternoon, most likely. (Ack, I haven’t even thought about what to write yet!) And this will be a recurring absence, so I thought it important to let people know about it. (Not that I’m flooded with comments of any type, let alone ones that need answering, but…better safe than sorry, yes?)
I think I had more to say, but I need to get ready to go to the museum now. (Shoulda started earlier so I could have gotten up a post on my other blog to stick this info onto the base of. Oh well…)
