Perspective

Published May 8, 2015 by Iphis of Scyros

Decided to post this one today because I’ve not recovered enough from Thursday to blog about it yet.  I’ll probably gripe about it tomorrow or Sunday.  If I have time; I’ve got a 15 page paper due on Wednesday, and I’ll never make my topic last for 15 pages.

(This post has been pre-written on May 6, because I had something I wanted to say.  It was then set aside for the first day when I had nothing to say.  As I had already posted once on that particular day.)

So I posted earlier today about how terrible my writing is.  I now have gained some perspective on that.  I mean, I still know my writing is bad, but I understand now that it is not truly terrible.  Because I have now seen that which is truly terrible.

I just saw “The Room.”

Obviously, I saw it at the RiffTracks Live event, so it was enhanced by the MST3K crew, making it so funny that I literally hurt my throat laughing.  (Seriously.)

But the writing in the original movie?  Makes me look like an award-winning author by comparison.  (Not, perhaps a major award, but some kind of award.)  At least my scenes all have a point.  And connect to each other in logical sequence.  And there’s no creepy dry-humping.  Eeeeuuugggh.  (It’s like “Movie, are you trying to make me glad that I’ll probably never experience sex?”)

So, at least that experience has made me feel a little bit better about my writing.

Changing the subject slightly, I also felt a little awkward at one point during the pre-show.  Once their movie-specific slides start playing, they also start playing special music, some their own songs, and some by other comedic artists like “Weird” Al.  So one of their own songs this time was a new one, called “My Girlfriend has a Virus”…which is about Hatsune Miku turning into a kaiju.

It was very funny–if perhaps a teeny bit mean–but it also made me feel a little bit self-conscious…

…because I was playing Project Diva earlier this afternoon.  (Though, in truth, I went through more Kaito and Luka songs than Miku songs, but…)

I really loved one of the “Weird” Al songs they played, though.  It was, essentially, about trying to teach spelling and grammar to the Internet.  Though I don’t know its name, that song is now my theme song.
